Link #3:

There were holes in the wall when I first saw him. Spaces big enough to warrant metal bars. Charcoal shadows on a pallid face. On his upper arm he bore a tattoo of a fox. He was the kind of pretty that grew rich with age and I’d wanted to help him.

“Don’t come near me,” he’d said. “Don’t you smell me? Can’t you sense I’m one of them?”

I’d surveyed him a moment, his flailing hands, widened eyes bluer than a blue Slush Puppie.

“I halb a colb.” My voice had come out nasally, congested. “My smell’s shot.”

He’d recoiled. The fox vanished. He’d come with me eventually.
